2019 Notes From Artists Dennis Eavenson And Sharon Eavenson On The Urban Beat Collection

Our Urban Beat works are non-representational reactions to the diverse environments that make up life in today's pulsating
megacities. These digital works communicate our responses from moving through the complex spaces created by buildings,
roads, sidewalks, vehicles and artificial lights. They are primarily spatial accounts designed to capture an emotional feeling
and a sense of place with linework directionals that move you through each composition.

These maze like pieces let the viewer experience our sensibilities for finding and interpreting all the visual noise inherent in
dense artificial worlds. A feeling of other worldliness emerges as you weave through the maze like linear elements that
juxtapose the less definable grounds where textures help to establish mood. Some bring to mind the gritty surfaces of
sidewalks and buildings while others possess varying levels of transparency that hint at glass surfaces and create a feeling
of being both inside and outside at the same time.

Mood and feeling are furthered with color palettes and tonal range. Contrast in color and tone creates excitement and
energizes the surface. These works express the many emotional experiences felt from city encounters. Atmospheres and
moods range from the stark daylight sensibility of noon to the mystery felt during the darkness of night.
